het paard van marken (the horse of marken) is the only lighthouse around the dutch coastline still lived in and manned. thijs and his wife liliane have been living in the lighthouse since 2003, but the lighthouse has been shining it's light since 1710. check out their website www.thijsvandetoren.nl to find out more. they live here happily with their chickens, ducks and beautiful dog, darco.
